When it comes to creating your private label apparel keep in mind one of the most important pieces the tag. The tag is what ultimately makes your apparel brand visible to all, that it is custom made.

Not only does the tag proudly display your brand name or logo it also states some useful information, like washing instructions, fiber content and company name or RN number but we’ll talk about that one in more depth in another blog.

Did you know some of that information is required by law? Something called the Textile and Wool Act. There are a few things that are required from manufacturers, sellers, distributers etc., on most textiles not specifically made for export; so no, companies aren’t adding tags to annoy, itch, or overwhelm you with information for no reason.

One way to get around the big itchy tags is by screen printing the necessary information inside the shirt. In order to do this though you need to know what is required and what isn’t and you need to find a Screen Printing company like Krillan that can help you. According to the Federal Trade Commission, tags for most textiles need to include the country of origin, fiber content, and must identify the manufacturer or business or RN number responsible for marketing or handling the item.

If you’re going to go with the traditional sew in tag the FTC has regulations on where the required information is located. For instance the country of origin needs to be on the front side of the label, the other stuff like fiber content, and manufacturer or dealer name can be on the reverse side or on a separate tag. One thing to keep in mind all this information needs to be in English, other languages can be added but English has to be one of them.

Both screen printed and sew on tags are good ways to brand your apparel, soon everyone will recognize your apparel not only by your designs but from your cool label. If you have more questions the staff at Krillan is always willing to help.
